After Kohli, it’s KL Rahul who will serve Indian cricket for long – Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle's energy is booming with age!

KL Rahul is arguably one of the phenomenal talents in the country. He became fan’s favourite when he smashed the bowlers all over the park during the last edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). But, his dismal run for India last year makes his fans unhappy. He also caught in controversy when he and Hardik Pandya made sexist comments on a TV chat show.

However, he has overcome the toughest phase of his life and is doing his best against in the ongoing IPL season. He along with Chris Gayle formed one of the most destructive openers in the ongoing IPL.

The West Indies superstar, Chris Gayle heaps praise on KL Rahul for his amazing talent. “KL is definitely one of the players that come to my mind (when you talk about the current India players), I hope he produces the goods like Virat. After Virat, it should be him,” Gayle said.

“But it is not necessary for him to put himself under that kind of pressure, he needs to be himself, stay in his zone and try not to compete with anyone. “You have a lot of talent (in India), I could go on and on and most of them don’t even get the opportunity (to play for the national team),” said the 39-year-old West Indian.

Gayle also added that he has enjoyed his time with the Kings XI Punjab franchise. When he had almost gone unsold in the last IPL auction, it was KXIP who bought the Universe Boss at his base price. Since then, he has been performing consistently for KXIP.

“Two years I have been here (with KXIP) and it has been phenomenal. I love Punjab style. I am getting to work with a great bunch of people and hopefully, we can do something special for the franchise. The aim is to get to the playoffs and take it from there.”

The legend of T20 cricket also talked about his KXIP skipper, Ravi Ashwin. He doesn’t know why Ashwin is not in India’s limited overs team.

“I don’t know what happened there (why he is not in India’s limited overs setup). He has been a phenomenal bowler for India. He is a very passionate bowler, equally passionate as captain and someone who strongly believes in his ability as well his team’s. It is very good to see that in a captain,” added Gayle.
