Akbar and co’s new journey starts with Bangladesh HP: Durjoy
Bangladesh HP unit chairman Naimur Rahman Durjoy insisted that it is the best opportunity for Akbar Ali and co to utilise the opportunity.
After winning the U-19 World Cup, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had a huge plan involving the team and it was also informed that they were all set to fly to England for a month-long camp. But all plans went in vain in the end due to the pandemic.
However, the U-19 players will finally return to cricket with the three-team one-day tournament involving the national, domestic and the u-19 cricketers.
A total of 12 members of the world cup-winning squad were included in the HP squad. Naimur Rahman had a meeting with the newly-appointed HP unit members at the BCB academy premises before they started their skill-development activities and advised them to make sure that they do all that is required to have a solid technique in place.
“In the past, we have labelled some youngster as talented but he faded away due to technical lacking. So I asked them to concentrate on removing their technical flaws here [in the HP program] so that they can do better in the national team.”
“Since we have different selectors for age group, different for national team there can be a different selector for HP unit and we have spoken about it as we felt the need for it and discussion is going on about it.”
We will think about a separate HP selector in the coming days and even if there is a High-Performance selector he should be in sync with the national team selection panel. HP unit is the breeding ground for the national team and we must make it as effective as possible,” he said.
The High-Performance unit will start their training under Jafrul Ehsan, while he will be assisted by Golam Mortuza, Wahidul Gani and Saiful Islam and Tushar Kanti Howlader.
