Akhtar hits out at Malik’s comment at post-match
Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has hit out at interim skipper Shoaib Malik over his latest remarks about the team’s ongoing ODI series against Australia. Pakistan didn’t have the best of times against Australia as they lost back-to-back fixtures.
With three more matches to go, the Green Shirts are under immense pressure at the moment and one loss means that they would lose the series. After Pakistan’s eight-wicket loss in the second ODI in Sharjah on Sunday, Malik at the post-match presentation said that it’s more about testing team’s bench strength than winning the series against Australia.
“It’s not about winning the series, it’s about testing our bench strength,” Malik added. Hearing these remarks, Akhtar was not at all pleased as he pointed out that Pakistan should focus only on winning the series as they lost their previous ODI series against South Africa 3-2.
Malik was wrong: Akhtar
Not just that as this series is being hosted just two months prior to the World Cup, which will be held in England and Wales. According to Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik messed it up at the presentation.
“Malik said the wrong things during the presentation… We should learn [that] we need to say the right thing at the right time, as it matters a lot,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by the Business Recorder.
Pakistan will look to make a rebound in the third ODI on March 27 in Abu Dhabi.
