The news already broke a few days ago that during Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny’s bowling action assessment at Brisbane in Australia, the duo will be in the company of Tigers head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe.

While many within the cricket fraternity of the country had earlier questioned such a move by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to send the head coach with Taskin and Sunny, BCB’s cricket operations chief Akram Khan on Tuesday explained why they have taken such an initiative.

During a recent interview with bdnews24, the former Bangladesh skipper claimed that it had been the general belief within the cricket board that duo could use some company in such a crucial time in their career with the bowling action test scheduled for September 8.

“We thought sending the coach would be best as he actually lives in Australia and is very familiar with everything there. Also, his presence will inspire Sunny and Taskin,” he said.

While the test will be on September 8, Taskin and Sunny will leave for the Australian city on September 5. According to Akram, it has also been a pre-meditated decision by the highest authority of cricket in Bangladesh.

“We don’t want Sunny and Taskin to go through the test immediately after reaching there. They will be sent a couple of days earlier so that they can practice. The coach will go there first and arrange everything.”

Akram further disclosed that apart from giving the cricketers his company in Australia, the head coach will also spend a few more days there with his family as the trip will be a combination of official duties and Eid break for the Sri Lankan.

“The camp will be closed for a few days because of the Eid holidays. He will just go there a few days earlier, that’s it. He will return before the camp resumes,” revealed Akram.
