All-round performance brings Bangladesh women resounding victory in opener

Thanks to fifties from Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque, Bangladesh posted 215 for six. Sharmin Akhter (56) added a 51-run stand with Sanjida Islam (28) and another 69-run stand with Fargana Hoque (51). Again in the late middle-order, Salma Khatun (32 not out) and Shaila Sharmin (20 not out) stitched an unbeaten 55-run partnership to take the Tigresses to a comprehensive total.

In reply to Bangladeshi total, Papua New Guinea went through a dramatic collapse after a decent start and got all out by 97 from 59/4. Even though, Tanya Ruma (20), Pauke Siaka (32) and Konio Oala (29) tried to rebuild the innings, all the Bangladesh bowlers were equally destructive, as they kept striking at regular intervals to skittle them out for a measly 97 in 32.1 overs. The win has taken Bangladesh to top of Group B with a net-run-rate of 2.360. Bangladesh will face Pakistan on Wednesday in their second game of the tournament.
