Amla to miss remainder of Sri Lanka series

South African right-handed batsman Hashim Amla to miss the remainder of the series against Sri Lanka due to his father’s illness.

"It is good challenge playing against England", says Hashim Amla

Sri Lanka are now on a long tour to South Africa. Both the teams are now sweating out in the ODI series following a memorable Test series win by the visitors, who became the first Asian team to win a Test series in South African soil.

But South Africa already secured the ODI series with them by winning the first three matches of the series with two more games to go.  South African right-handed batsman Hashim Amla has opted out from the remaining ODIs due to the illness to his father.

Amla had been called up on Monday as the Proteas sought to rotate him with Reeza Hendricks, who dropped out of the squad for the final two matches. “Hashim has asked to be excused from the last two ODIs of the current series against Sri Lanka on compassionate grounds since his father is critically ill,” South Africa team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Hashim and his family during this difficult time and we understand that family obligations always come first. The selectors have decided to add Reeza Hendricks to the squad. It was always the intention of the selectors to rotate Hashim and Reeza during this Sri Lanka ODI series.”
