An almost “Mankad” incident in IPL 2019: Krunal Pandya almost mankads Agarwal

Almost every match in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) created a headline. No exception in the yesterday’s match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians. Krunal Pandya had the chance to give Ashwin a painful but much needed insight by Mankading Mayank Agarwal however he decided not to.

Krunal could have been an opportunist to mankad Mayank Agarwal. It could have changed the complexion of the game. But he didn’t do and kept the spirit of the game. Later, Agarwal smashed a 43 run-knock in 21 deliveries also helped KXIP chase down a tricky target of 177 with eight balls to spare.

The incident took place in the 10th over of Punjab innings when Krunal had stopped at the non-striker’s end while he was about to bowl as Mayank Agarwal had walked down the pitch. And then he decided not to mankad and warned Agarwal instantly. Lokesh Rahul was at the strikers end that time and Agarwal was not out at 19 runs from 8 balls then.

Krunal Pandya won much appreciation and respect from the cricket world on social media as he didn’t make the incident again. Former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Krunal Pandya on Twitter and said that is the way one should deal with a Mankad. Many followers of Pandya gave welcome to him for his action on social media.

Earlier this week, R Ashwin had raised a controversy when he Mankaded Jos Buttler who was leading the charge for Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. The whole cricket fraternity divided into two groups following the incident of Ashwin’s decision to mankad Buttler. It had been a trending topic since then. And it looks like it will continue in the upcomimg days also.

Ashwin’s Kings XI Punjab will face Shreyas Iyer’s Delhi Capitals on Monday in Mohali.
