He has been suffering with knee trouble since the match against Australia. Later on, he plunged into the injury for the second time during their encounter against the hosts.

Sunil Ambris has been reportedly replaced in the spot of Russell. The 26-year old opening batsman Ambris is called in the squad for the remaining matches of the Caribbean team.

Russell, one of the talismans of West Indies team, was holding his breath despite being in pain for the sake of the team as the sides’ captain Jason Holder earlier said it was worth taking the risk of making Russell play because he is a match winner.

“We have been trying our best to keep him on the park, but it is proving difficult. Going forward, we have to persist. He is here for a reason. We think he can be a match-winner for us,” Holder said.
