Anushka’s lovely message for Kohli’s on-field gesture
Virat Kohli played a stupendous knock and helped the side tick the flow of runs as soon as he came out to bat. He scored 80 runs to his name. Besides making the headlines for his top knock, he hogged the limelight for one more reason as well.
His touching gesture towards Australian plater Steven Smith changed the complexion and atmosphere of the stadium. In fact, Kohli’s sweet gesture earned him a lot of praise not just from the fans all over the world but also from his wife Anushka Sharma as well.
During the first innings of the game, a certain section of the audience in chorus voice shouted ‘cheater, cheater, cheater’ at Steve Smith as the latter was involved in an infamous ball-tampering incident last year, while he was fielding and he was banned for a year alongside David Warner.
After the ban, Steve Smith finally joined the team and has started playing the World Cup. But he received a hostile reception from the Indian fans. Seeing this, Virat Kohli looked at the crowd and requested the fans to set a good example by stopping the boos and to clap instead.
Soon after that, things changed and the situation was brought back to normal. Steve Smith who witnessed the scene went up to Kohli to give a hand to Kohli as a part of sportsmanship.
Sharing news of Virat’s sweet gesture, Anushka took to Instagram and wrote, “Aggressive player, benevolent man – so easy to love.” Meanwhile, Ayushmann tweeted, “A true icon. Well done captain! #INDvAUS #WorldCup2019.”
