Anxiety in Bangladesh team as Liton unable to recognize colour of pink-ball
Opener Saif Hassan was dropped from the team on Wednesday due to finger injury. Another big blow came to Bangladesh camp 24 hours before going down to play the first-ever pink-ball Test at Eden Gardens on Friday, November 22.
Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das could not recognize the color of the pink ball. It was known during a vision test on Thursday. As a result, he was having trouble seeing the ball. As a result, another concern had been raised in Bangladesh team about who will defend the ball behind the stump in the Eden Test against India.
Liton had been having problem with pink balls, it was understood in practice session of Bangladesh on Wednesday morning. He was bowled out nine times by a net bowler Irfan. Later that day, in a vision test it was showed that Liton could not see the pink ball clearly. After that, he did not do practice that day. When the Bangladesh team did batting and bowling preparations at the evening with Eden Test in mind, Leighton was walking on the porch of the clubhouse. But when asking about his absence in practice session, he didn’t say anything. He went to the dressing room.
Before the start of the current series, Mushfiqur Rahim said he wanted to concentrate on batting. That’s why he would not do wicket-keeping in India tour. As a result, the question now in Bangladesh team is, if Liton, who is in charge of wicket-keeping in the series as a replacement for Mushfiqur, cannot play, who will play at that spot.
It was known that Bangladesh had been searching his replacement already. Mohammad Mithun had played as a wicket-keeper in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket and for Rangpur Raiders in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) previously. So it won’t be a surprising news if Mithun is seen as Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper in the historic day-night Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
