Shakib was firstly named in the T20I squad but he later announced that he won’t be playing the series with finger injury. He is expected to return to cricket in two weeks time.

The selectors have decided to pick Nazmul Islam, the left-arm bowler who has been successful in Bangladesh Premier League. He has picked 37 wickets at an economy rate of 6.99 in 50 matches in his T20 career.

Nazmul was in Bangladesh’s 32-member preliminary squad which was announced in December last year. Now, Bangladesh have six new faces in the squad.

Meanwhile, Mahmudullah Riyad will also be leading in the T20Is. To be mentioned, there was no vice-captain for Bangladesh in T20Is.

Mahmudullah has been one of Bangladesh’s best T20 captains over the years. He led Chittagong Kings and Barisal Bulls to BPL Finals in 2013 and 2015. He took Khulna Titans to top four in 2016 and 2017 editions.

The first of the two T20Is between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be played on February 15 at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Sylhet will host the second T20I on February 18.
