‘Are Aussies cheap?’ former greats sigh
Australian Cameron Bancroft evoked severe controversies when visuals caught him using a yellow object to scratch the ball during the third day of the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. He was further seen hiding the object under his underpants.
Field umpires Nigel Llong and Richard Illingworth did not change the ball though after speaking to Bancroft. The incident raised storms in the social media. Some of the former greats even pointed to the Aussies as ‘cheap.’
Former South African hard hitter Kevin Pietersen said, “My 2cents worth – This will be Darren Lehmann’s greatest test as a coach, cos I will struggle to believe that this was all Bancroft’s idea.”
Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif tweeted, “Oh no! Bancroft. Very embarrassing. From the looks of it, this is not on. Haven’t seen a series marred by controversies like this one in a long long time. The Cricket has been great, but this …”
Former English captain Michael Vaughn tweeted, “I need a bit of joinery doing at the house … Are Aussies cheap???”
“Hear, Hear! Putters you deserve more bud, great servant to the game and a legend to boot!,” this is what Dale Steyn said.
Notable Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle later said, “Very interested in seeing how the match referee views this Bancroft matter. If indeed he was trying to hide the sandpaper that makes him look very guilty.. Just as interested in seeing what the team management has to say about its team.”
