Ashar Zaidi to play for Kolabagan, no Malik-Bopara in DPL

Ashar Zaidi, the man who played in the third season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and won the Man of the Tournament award courtesy to his all-round performance throughout the competition, is going to play for Kolabagan Cricket Academy in this year’s Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL). In the meantime, though early speculations suggested the possibility of Ravi Bopara’s participation on behalf of Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the DPL, he will not be available for the tournament because of his pre-scheduled deal in the County cricket in England.

On the other hand, Shoaib Malik too will not be able to play for Prime Bank, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned down his application for the No Objection Certificate (NOC). However another Pakistani player, Saeed Anwar (Jr) will play for Gazi Group.

Traditional heavyweight Abahani Limited have roped in Sri Lanka’s Chamara Kapugedara, while another Sri Lankan Upul Tharanga was picked up by powerhouse Mohammedan Sporting Club. It is to be noted that Upul Tharanga will be available only till the third round, thereafter he will be replaced by Afghanistan’s super all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.

Due to financial crisis, Kolabagan Krira Chakra and Cricket Coaching School (CCS) have decided not to register any foreign players.
