While most of the national players, who have just returned Bangladesh after the New Zealand series a fortnight ago, aren’t taking part in the country’s only franchise-based first class tournament, Mohammad Aahraful and Arafat Sunny are also among the absentee list despite not playing in the New Zealand Tests.

However the reason behind their absence in the tournament is completely different from the others.

Ashraful is not eligible to play in this tournament because of the match fixing ban on him. The ban was partially withdrawn by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year, but still he can’t take part in any franchise based tournament for next two years.

In the mean time, Arafat Sunny was in the preliminary squad for the BCL, but the national selectors didn’t keep him in the main squad, for the spinner is now in police custody after being alleged by a 23-year-old woman for two cases, one under the ICT law and the other of marital dowry.
