Ashwin fit to play in next game despite shoulder injury

Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has confirmed he is fit to play despite suffering a shoulder injury during their opening game of the tournament.

R Ashwin fit to play

It looked like a huge blow for Delhi Capitals when Ravichandran Ashwin was rushed off the field due to a shoulder injury and especially when he was on fire with the ball.

The off-spinner bowled an excellent first over after being introduced in the final over of the Powerplay as he got rid of Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran inside five deliveries. His bowling figures were 2/2, but during the last delivery of the over, he landed awkwardly on his left arm with his shoulder taking the brunt of the fall.

While everyone was assuming he will be out of the tournament, Ashwin took everyone by surprise and said he is fit to play the next game. However, it is for the DC Medical team to decide if they will rush the off-spinner or not.

During the post-match press conference, Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer informed that Ashwin told him he will be ready for the next game.

“I briefly spoke to Ashwin, and Ashwin said he’ll be ready for the next game. But at the end of the day it’s the physio’s decision. He’s a strong-minded guy and hopefully he will be available,” he said.

The clash between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab went down to the super over where KL Rahul and his men only managed to score 3 runs. Delhi won the game comfortably in the end in the super over courtesy of some terrific bowling by Kagiso Rabada.
