“Ashwin is still the no. 1 spinner in Indian team” – Anil Kumble

Indian spin legend Anil Kumble believes that Ravichandran Ashwin is still the best spinner in India team and the side needs to find an option to get him in the team.

Currently Ashwin had been in West Indies with the team but he had to warm the bench in the test series against the host where India won the series by 2-0. In both the test matches, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played as the only spinner in the team as he got advantage over Ashwin for his batting and excellent fielding skill.

“He is as yet the best spinner that you have,” Kumble said. “Indeed, there have been a couple of occurrences where he has had wounds and not performed to his potential, yet Ashwin is still your no. 1 spinner in the group. He ought to be a piece of the squad, he ought to be in the playing XI, you need to make a way for getting him in.”

Kumble also added that Ashwin had the potential to contribute in the batting section too. He scored 2361 runs in 65 matches averaging 29.14 with 11 half-centuries and 4 centuries.

“I firmly accept that the group absolutely can have two spinners in the squad, on the grounds that both Ashwin and Jadeja are superb batsmen,” he said. “Ashwin has had four Test hundreds, Jadeja has been extremely consistent with the bat. He did that again in the West Indies, he’s a great bowler as well and them two couple can absolutely be bunch for the opposition. So truly, when India travel outside, it’s not generally that you get four bowlers to get 20 wickets.

“Preferably, in the event that you have a blend of three quick bowlers and two spinners, wherein your two spinners can likewise contribute with the bat, that is the ideal situation. What’s more, you have two front-line spinners who are similarly great as batsmen, so I believe it’s simply a question of time, I emphatically accept that Ashwin will absolutely make it into the playing XI. In this way, the management needs to take a gander at that and I am somewhat astonished that somebody with the capacity and nature of Ashwin is sitting out in a Test match.”
