Ashwin’s “Mankad” took all the attention in a Punjab win at Jaipur

Kings XI Punjab took the win over Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs at Jaipur in the fourth match with of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. But all the attention went at the mankad which did by the Punjab’s skipper Ravichandran Ashwin in Jos Buttler’s dismissals.

He scored just 4 runs.

After that, Mayank Agarwal welcomed state team-mate Krishnappa Gowtham with a maximum over long-off. Meanwhile, Chris Gayle has looked edgy but completed 4,000 IPL runs and he’s the fastest player to reach the landmark.

Agarwal and Gayle made the partnership of 56 runs before Agarwal getting out scoring 22 runs from 24 balls. But on the other hand, Gayle continued his good form of batting and reached his 25th IPL fifty. He and Sarfaraz Khan continued to increase the run rate of KXIP. At one time, it looked like Punjab would reach the 200 mark. But Gayle got out in the 16th over and the run rate decreased after that. The West-Indies great, Gayle scored 79 runs from 47 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Then a liitle cameo from Sarfaraz Khan who scored an unbeaten 46 runs from 29 balls helped Kings XI Punjab to set the target of 185 runs. Ben Stokes was the highest wicket taker for Rajasthan with 2 wickets by giving away 48 runs in 4 overs.

Chasing the target of 185 runs, Ajinkya Rahane and Joss Buttler made a solid start to the innings. Buttler and Rahane were taking apart the Punjab bowlers continuously from the start of the innings. They made the partnership of 78 runs in the first wicket before Rahane getting out by the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin with scoring 27 runs.

On the other hand, Buttler continued his great run in the IPL and achieved his 6th half century with some sparkling shots and scoops. At one time, Buttler made the run chase easier for the Rajasthan before hisbrilliant innings was cut short courtesy a mankad. Ashwin paused before his delivery stride and took the bails off with the Englishman still out of his crease. Third umpire made a contentious decision and gave Buttler out for this. Buttler scored 69 runs from 43 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes. However, it was the first mankad in the history of IPL.

After that, no one from Rajasthan did much. As a result, Punjab was getting closer and closer to win the match. After an one year ban for ball tempering incident, former captain of Australia Steven Smith looked nervous at the start of his innings but gradually he started to hit his form. But a spectacular catch from Rahul stopped his promising 20 runs innings from 16 balls.

Then the wickets were falling quickly and Rajasthan were able to score just 170 runs with the fall of 9 wickets. And Kings XI Punjab won the dramatic match by 14 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the most successful bowler for Punjab with 2 wickets by giving away 31 runs in 4 overs.

Chris Gayle was adjusted man of the match for his excellent innings.
