Australia thump India by 32 runs in Ranchi ODI
Aussies breathe a sigh of relief as they registered their first victory over India in the ongoing ODI series. It was the kind of response that the visitors had wanted as India already won the first two matches. It was a do or die contest for Finch & Co but they got their job done now.
Posting 315/5 required hoard of efforts by the Aussie batsmen. The opening 193-run stand between Finch and Khawaja just took the game away from the Indians. Khawaja was dropped by Dhawan in the early overs of the game but he went on to convert that into a maiden ODI century with 11 fours and a six.
On the other hand, out-of-form Finch finally broke the shackles to make a pretty good score embellished with 10 fours and 3 sixes but missed out on a well-deserved century. Then Maxwell spiced it up with 31-ball 47 with a flurry of 3 fours and 3 sixes.
For Aussies, it was all about the top-order magic that helped the team push to a flmaboyant total. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India while others struggled to find the balance.
“It was a pretty good performance. To get 300 on that wicket was very good. It was nice and especially in these conditions. That partnership allowed Maxi to come in and play his game. I have been working really hard and have always had the faith I would get runs. Usman played a fantastic knock, Jhye was also impressive with the ball,” Aaron Finch said at the post-match presentation.
In reply to Australia’s total, India couldn’t just hold on to the partnership firmly just like Aussies. It was purely one man show by Virat Kohli who scored his 41st ODI century while other batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Kohli was the only hope but he himself got out after scoring a ton. Cummins, Richardson and Zampa were superb as they pitched in with three wickets each apeice.
