Australian premier club hires Asanka Gurusinha as batting coach

Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning team member Asanka Gurusinha has been hired by the Kingston Hawthorn Cricket Club, Victoria as the batting coach. This was revealed by the Club president Brett Sebire.

Gurusinha is a Level 3 certified Cricket Coach and was previously the consultant Regional Cricket Coach for Cricket Australia.

Asanka is no stranger to Premier cricket in Melbourne having played with North Melbourne back in late 1980’s when not required for Sri Lankan duties.

In 2017 he was appointed by the SLC as the Cricket Manager for the Sri Lankan team and also a selector following his resignation as Manager. He is well credentialed and has developed and fostered cricket talent across the globe.

“As a Premier Club in Melbourne we are delighted to have such a high performance person and cricket legend assisting us with our efforts to improve our playing group,”

the Club president said.

“Asanka will help us during Season 2020/21 at this stage and will add his international expertise to our coaching lineup, under Interim Head Coach Peter Marshall. Unfortunately, our Head Coach Ben Williams, who is from New Zealand, is hampered by the COVID-19 restrictions in this part of the world, and unable to join us until later in the year.”

27 Australian representatives and one Irishman – Tyrone Kane from this premier club have played the game at the highest level.
