Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur ruled out of Asia Cup; replacements named

After the exclusion of Hardik Pandya from the ongoing Asia Cup, India announced his replacement in the form of Deepak Chahar who is a seam bowler as well as handy with the bat. But the injury scares don’t stop for India as two more players from their squad ruled out of the tournament. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel and fast bowler Shardul Thakur both have
got ruled out of the Asia Cup and will be replaced by two familiar faces Ravindra Jadeja and Siddharth Kaul.

Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel
Patel injured his thumb in the practice session and that’s why BCCI had to take a fast decision to announce the replacement. Jadeja is almost a similar cricketer to what Patel is. Both are left-handed orthodox spinners, both can bat decently. So the latter was the apt replacement for the former. But we have to consider the fact that Jadeja hasn’t played any limited overs international cricket for the past one and a half year.

Siddarth Kaul
The second replacement for injured Thakur is Kaul who played for India in Ireland and England limited-overs series recently. Thakur has a groin niggle. Kaul’s inclusion was well served because many personally feel he is a way better bowler than Thakur at the moment in the limited overs formats.

Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja was playing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy for is state Saurashtra. He had a horrible first match over there. Jadeja and Ashwin were at their peak in all forms of cricket for India but the extraordinary wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal kicked the formers out of the limited overs side.

Kaul is already there in the Dubai. He went their last week to bowl the Indian batsmen in the nets. He had a fantastic first match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he grabbed 4 wickets in his 10 overs quota. He is most likely to feature in the next Asia Cup match against Bangladesh in the place of Hardik Pandya in the side.
