Babar achieves career-best position in ICC Test rankings
Pakistan captain Babar Azam rose to fifth position in the Test batsman rankings in February this year. That was his career best ranking in Tests. But he could not stay there for long, Babar had to go down to six.
After the Southampton Test, the Pakistani batsman is back in the fifth position again. An innings of 47 runs has lifted him one step up.
Babar’s two teammates Abid Ali and Mohammad Rizwan have also seen their career-best batting rankings. Abid is at 49th and Rizwan is at 75th.
England’s pace pair Stuart Broad and James Anderson have also improved in the rankings. Broad, who took four wickets for 56 runs in the Southampton Test, is now the second best bowler degrading New Zealand’s Neil Wagner at no. 3 position. Anderson, who took 3 wickets for 60 runs, is improved two steps ahead at 14th position.
Among the Pakistani bowlers, Mohammad Abbas climbed two steps ahead with two wickets for 28 runs. He is now at eighth in the bowler rankings. He was in the career best ranking in October 2018 (third position).
England, meanwhile, are third in the ICC Test Championship with 279 points. Pakistan is at the fifth place with 153 points. India tops the list with 360 points.
