Babar Azam hammered a dazzling hundred to facilitate Pakistan surviving in the contest of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 defeating New Zealand by six wickets in Birmingham on Wednesday.

On the way to his unbeaten 101, the 24-year old Babar became the second fastest batsman to score 3,000 ODI runs. He reached into the feat in 68 innings.

South Africa’s Hashim Amla tops the list scoring 3,000 ODI runs in 57 innings. West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards is placed at third spot as he took 69 innings to amass 3,000 ODI runs, followed by West Indies’ CG Greenidge (72) and South Africa’s Gary Kirsten (72).

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is at the sixth spot in the list reaching the milestone in 72 innings, followed by Joe Root (72), Kane Williamson (73), Quinton de Kock (74) and Virat Kohli (75).

Babar said after receiving the man of the match award, said, “I think this is the best knock of mine in ODIs, because it was a must-win game. The Track was a bit slow and also spinning a bit. The Idea was always to bat till the end and it worked,”

Pakistan successfully chased down New Zealand’s 237 for 6 with six wickets and five balls left in hand. Haris Sohail contributed a brilliant 68 off 76 balls slashing 5 fours and 2 sixes, propelling Pakistan into the minimal distance from the victory target when he was run out by Guptill in the third ball of the 48th over.

With the win, Pakistan bagged 7 points thus equaling Bangladesh and have managed to keep their semi-final hope alive.
