Babar is yet to reach his full potential: Hafeez
Many consider Babar Azam as one of the best Pakistani batsmen of the time. Many are not just stuck in Pakistan team, they consider him as one of the best batsmen of the time. Some even compare him to Virat Kohli.
Another Pakistan batsman, Mohammad Hafeez, thinks the cricketing world has yet to see the true potential of Babar Azam, who has scored five centuries in 26 Tests and 10 centuries in 74 ODIs.
Hafeez did not play much with Babar Azam. Hafeez has played only two matches under Pakistan’s newly appointed ODI captain Babar. But what Hafeez understands from watching these two matches is that Babar Azam will go a long way. No one has seen his best yet.
Praising Babar Azam, Hafeez said,
“He [Babar] is a brilliant performer for Pakistan. In his five-year career for Pakistan so far, he has played some amazing cricket. However, he is yet to reach his full potential, considering his talent.”
Babar Azam is now only 25 years old. He has a long career ahead of him. Hafeez thinks that Babar Azam will be able to do more in the near future, “He is like my younger brother and I tell him to his face that a talent like him is not there yet where I want to see him. He is trying to push those barriers and I am confident that he will serve Pakistan for a long time.”
Babar Azam got the leadership of Pakistan at a young age. Will it be a burden for him? Hafeez doesn’t think so. Hafeez seems to be the opposite, “I haven’t seen him a lot as a captain. I played only two matches under his captaincy. I can’t evaluate his captaincy until I see his personal tactics as a captain in different match situations.
“I have best wishes for him that he leads Pakistan for a long period of time and joins the list of successful Pakistan captains. It will be beneficial for him as well as Pakistan because when our top-level performer will start winning as a captain, his confidence will be even higher.”
