Although opener Tamim Iqbal failed to recover in time, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returns after suffering from a long-term finger injury. Tamim was also set to return in the first Test, but in the end another injury setback during a practice session has ruled him out.

Meanwhile, Liton Das, Shafiul Islam and Abu Jayed has been dropped from the squad. Liton had a disastrous series against Zimbabwe as he managed to score only 47 runs in four innings while Abu Jayed failed to pick up any wicket in the first Test he played. However, Shafiul can consider himself unlucky as he didn’t get any opportunity in the Test series against Zimbabwe. There was also no room for Nazmul Hasan who played in the Sylhet Test.

Doors have been opened once again for Soumya Sarkar, who played his last Test match in 2017. He has been rewarded for his consistent performance in the domestic league while offbreak bowler Naeem Hasan has earned a maiden call-up to the Test squad. He was the highest wicket-taker of this year’s NCL with 28 wickets.

Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Ariful Haque, Mahmudullah, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mustafizur Rahman, Taijul Islam, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Nayeem Hasan.
