There was some possibility of the inclusion of Tamim as he has almost recovered from the side strain, but in the end, the management decided not to risk him. As it stands, Soumya Sarkar and Shadman will open the innings in the second Test for Bangladesh.
Pacer Khaled Ahmed, who made his debut in the Zimbabwe series has made it to the squad once again despite not getting an opportunity in the first Test. However, he is unlikely to make it to the main XI as Bangladesh will be looking to keep their winning combination.
All the spotlight now drifts to Shadman as he is set to make his Test debut. The player scored 3023 runs in 42 first-class games at an average of 47.50. And in his st six first-class games for Dhaka Metro, he has scored three half-centuries and two 150-plus scores to surge ahead.
After the announcement of the squad, BCB selector Minhajul Abedin said:
“Imrul Kayes is having pain on his shoulder and that is the reason we opted to rest him. We are looking forward to see how Shadman responds to international cricket. If he makes it into the XI as he is scoring runs quite consistently in the domestic tournament [Highest scorer in NCL],”
“There is no specific update of Tamim injury status so we did not include him. But if he is available we can include him anytime. That is why we had to announce a 13-member squad.”
