Bangladesh will be placed in Group B alongside Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the forthcoming 2022 Asian Cup. The schedule was announced by Asian Cricket Council chief Jay Shah on Twitter. The tournament will act as the ideal dress rehearsal for the Asian teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia. Meanwhile, the Asia Cup will be held in the UAE after being taken out of Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis.
Bangladesh reached the 2018 Asian Cup final, losing to India. India is the defending champion of the tournament. India won the last edition of the Asia Cup in 2018. India has also won most 7 titles from 12 Asia Cup tournaments. Sri Lanka has won 5 titles while Pakistan is responsible for 2 titles.
Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are the 5 confirmed teams. A team from Hong Kong, Kuwait, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates will take the place of the 6th team. Bangladesh now plays a lot of international cricket. They played a Test series against New Zealand earlier in the year and have played bilateral ODI and T20I regularly since then.
