Shakib Al Hasan has returned to the role of Test team captain with the Antigua Test recently against West Indies. However, on his return, captain Shakib suffered a miserable defeat. After such a performance, he made a big comment at the press conference. He said- Bangladesh have not got technically good batsmen.
Bangladesh were bowled out for just 103 runs in the first innings of the Antigua Test. Shakib fought alone in that innings. In the second innings, Shakib again batted well. The Tigers got a nominal lead as no one could support him except Nurul Hasan Sohan. Innings defeat was avoided but Bangladesh lost the match by 7 wickets with 5 sessions remaining.
This failure of the batsmen in the Tests has been seen in the last few matches. At the press conference, Shakib was asked whether the batsmen of Bangladesh at this stage have any technical problems or the problem behind the batting failure is just mental.
In response, Shakib said, “No, technically there are many problems. I don't think we have a very good batter technically, who is in our team (among them). Everyone has a lot of technical problems.”
Shakib thinks that the batsmen have to try to overcome this problem on their own. In his words, “They have to figure out how to score runs, how to stay at the crease. It is possible to bring it from one's personal game. I don't think it will work by telling anyone. Everyone has to take responsibility for themselves - how to get back on the run or how to stay on the crease for long.”
