Bangladesh have begun their Sri Lanka tour with a convincing 5-wicket victory over Sri Lanka Board President’s XI in the warm-up one-dayer at P Sara Oval, Colombo.

Bangladesh, led by Tamim Iqbal, opted to bowl first. Pacers made early inroads for the touring side. Rubel Hossain got opposition captain Niroshan Dickwella lbw for a duck in the first over. He then sent back Oshada Fernando.

Taskin Ahmed’s only wicket was Danushka Gunathilaka, who made a brisk 27. SLBP XI were tumbling at 32 for 3.

Shehan Jayasuriya helped the hosts recover with his 56 runs as he involved in a 82-run stand with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (32). It was Dasun Shanaka who shifted the momentum towards the end. His 63-ball 86* blitz included 6 fours and 6 sixes. That helped SLBP XI post 282/8 on board.

Soumya Sarkar grabbed two wickets to his name . Mustafizur Rahman and Farhad Reza took one wicket each.

In reply, openers Tamim and Soumya Sarkar put on 45 runs for the opening wicket. Soumya was relatively slow for his 24-ball 13 runs. Tamim was dismissed for 37 by Lahiru Kumara.

73-run third-wicket stand between Bangladesh’s new No.3 Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim eased the run-chase. Mushfique faced 46 balls for his 50 runs. While Mithun capitalized on his opportunity, top-scoring with 91 runs from 100 deliveries including 11 fours and a six.

Mahmudullah Riyad hit 33 with the bat. Sabbir Rahman (31* off 26) and Mosaddek Hossain (15* off 10) guided Bangladesh to five-wicket win with 11 balls to go.

The first ODI will take place at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on July 26.
