Bangladesh expect Saifuddin to play in WC opener against SA

Bangladesh team management, on Thursday, said they are hopeful of young all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin’s fitness and expecting him to appear in the opening encounter against South Africa on the second day of June.

The 22-year old injured his back in the warm-up match against India; he was forced to leave the field after his first spell of six over. He was underwent an MRI later on.

”We are expecting Saifuddin to be available for the opening game,” Bangladesh team manager Khaled Mahmud said.

”Though there is pain we are hopeful that he will be able to make it to the opening game. Probably he will need an [painkilling] injection and he has taken such an injection in the past too,”

he added.

Bangladesh have been troubled with minor injury concerns ahead of the big clash. Skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza is niggled with hamstring while pacer Mustafizur Rahman has anxiety for his calf concern.

Batsman Mahmudullah Riyad is also stressed with shoulder condition.

About the condition of skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who who pulled a hamstring in his left leg in the match against India after being cleared of the right leg hamstring before the match, manager Khaled Mahmud said, “I think he isn’t injured badly because he just pulled his leg while playing the game but it is not that serious. He will just need a little bit of treatment to recover fully.”
