Bangladesh level Test series with a huge win
Bangladesh have leveled the two-match Test series 1-1 by beating Zimbabwe by 218 runs in the second Test in Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Zimbabwe have completed their short outing to Bangladesh with a drawn Test series and lost ODI series. The hosts whitewashed them in the three-match ODI series. But Zimbabwe came back strongly in the Test series by beating them in the first of the two-match Test series.
Although Zimbabwe bowlers had an upper hand over Bangladesh in the first innings for a while, that was well defended by the knocks of Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 161 and 219 respectively. That resulted in a first innings total of 522/7 for the Tigers.
In reply, Zimbabwe managed to score only 304 in the first innings with the help of ton from Brendon Taylor. Bangladesh took a huge lead of 218 in the first innings. The hosts capitalized the lead they got and set a target of 443 for the visitors with the century from the captain Mahmudullah.
Zimbabwe were put in a tough situation to save the match for ensuring a series win in white clothes after a long gap. But at last the visitors failed to do so. In the second innings, they had a good opening partnership of 68 but the things turned completely opposite after the first wicket.
Brain Chari was the second victim and he missed his fifty by seven runs. The centurion in the first innings Brendon Taylor was the only hope for the visitors and he tried his best by scoring another century. Unfortunately, he didn’t get any support from his teammates to save the game.
In the end, Zimbabwe were bowled out for only 224 and led o a victory by 218 runs for Bangladesh. With this win, the hosts managed to draw the Test series. Mehidy Hassan once again the pick of the bowlers with another five-wicket haul.
