Bangladesh squad announced for Chittagong Test

U-19 off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is a surprise pick in the squad. He has just played four first-class matches. Currently, the 17-year-old is in New Zealand with Bangladesh U-19 World Cup squad. After losing to India in the quarter-final, Nayeem is expected to return.

“Nayeem is a talented bowler and since we wanted an additional offspinner, we picked him,” Minhajul told ESPNcricinfo. “He is a good option. He is coming back from New Zealand since we lost to India today.”

Subashis Roy, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Taskin Ahmed have been dropped from Tigers Test squad of South Africa tour. All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain and pacer Kamrul Islam Rabbi is called back into the side.

Mosaddek was not picked for tri-nation series. He played in Bangladesh Cricket League instead. Kamrul was not a member of Bangladesh squad after India tour last year. He has been brought in ahead of Subashis.

Likes of Sabbir, Taskin and Soumya are under-performed in domestic games too. Sabbir is however in the ODI squad.

Bangladesh will be playing a Test match under Shakib Al Hasan’s captaincy once again since 2011 when Mushfiqur Rahim took over. Mahmudullah Riyad replaces Tamim Iqbal as vice-captain.

Bangladesh Test squad: Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Mahmudullah Riyad (vice-captain), Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mosaddek Hossain, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rubel Hossain, Nayeem Hasan.
