Bangladesh U-19 start off New Zealand tour with a huge win
Bangladesh U-19 registered a comfortable victory against New Zealand in the first Youth ODI of the New Zealand tour.
After winning the practice match, the young Tigers have started the Youth ODI series on high as well with a big victory against New Zealand by six wickets in the first game.
At the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln, the young Tigers bowled out New Zealand for only 176 runs in 48 overs. Fast bowlers Shoriful Islam and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury scalped three wickets and rattled down the New Zealand batting department.
Mrittunjoy was also exceptionally economical with the ball as he conceded only 21 runs in his 9 overs. Off-spinner Shamim Hossain took two wickets while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rakibul Hasan chipped in with a wicket each.
In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target with six wickets in hand and 68 balls to spare. Skipper Akbar Ali led the team from front with his unbeaten 65 from 61 balls. He smashed 11 boundaries and took his side over the line.
Shahadat Hossain was not out on 24 while Tanzid (28), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (28) and Towhid Hridoy (26) made decent contributions.
The second ODI of the five-match series will be held at the same venue on Tuesday.
