Bangladesh have finished the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup mission with a comfortable 5-wicket win against UAE on Wednesday (January 25). Bangladesh finished third in the group despite the same 6 points as India and Australia but eliminated from the tournament because of the lower net run rate.
UAE won the toss and elected to bat first at Potchefstroom. But they started horribly and lost two wickets in the first over. Then Lavanya Keny and Mahika Gaur put up some resistance. The two added 32 runs for the third wicket partnership. Mahika got out after the team’s 36 runs. She played a fighting innings of 17 runs off 27 balls before getting out.
But Lavanya was progressing quite well. But on the other end, no one could support her. UAE were reduced to 69/9 in 20 overs from 62/4. Lavanya scored 29 runs from 46 balls. Rabeya Khan bowled brilliantly for Bangladesh. She took 3 wickets for only 14 runs. Besides, Marufa Akter got 2 wickets. Dipa Khatun, Reya Akter Shika and Shorna Akter had 1 wicket each.
Bangladesh didn't have to get any momentum while chasing the target of 70 runs. Opener Afia Prottasha gave the team a good start. After playing an innings of 15 runs from 15 balls, Afia was dismissed for team’s 21 runs. After that, Shorna played aggressively. Thanks to her devastating innings of 38 runs off 19 balls, the victory was easy for the Tigresses.
In the end, Rabeya scored 14 runs from 13 balls. Bangladesh reached the small target with 65 balls and 5 wickets in hand. Indhuja Nandakumar and Samaira Dharnidharka took 2 wickets each for UAE.
