Bangladesh women stun India

After beating Pakistan women, Bangladesh women have now handed seven-wicket loss to tournament favourites India women in the ninth match of Women’s T20 Asia Cup at Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur. [নিউজটি বাংলায় পড়ুনঃ এশিয়া কাপে ভারতকে ৭ উইকেটে হারালো বাংলাদেশ]

India women elected to bat first after winning the toss. Tigress got rid of openers Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj early in the innings. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma added valuable runs to their total. Kaur top-scored with 37-ball 42 runs hitting 6 boundaries. Sharma made 32 off 28.

The lower-order couldn’t contribute much as India posted 141/7 in 20 overs. Rumana Ahmed was the peak of the bowlers for three wickets for 21 runs. Captain Salma Khatun took one wicket. There were three run outs in India’s innings.

Bangladesh women lost three wickets for 49 in 7.5 overs in the chase. Opener Sharmin Sultana made 33 off 23 hitting 7 fours at the top. The rest of the run chase was handled by Fargana Haque and Rumana Ahmed, who added 93* runs to finish the game with two balls to spare.

Fargana scored her maiden T20I fifty, 52 not out from 46 deliveries including 5 fours and one six. Rumana was the Player of the Match again. She made 34-ball 42* runs with six boundaries.

The 142 is now Bangladesh women’s highest total in T20 Internationals. In 10 attempts, this is Tigresses’ first ever T20I win over India women.

Despite back-to-back wins, Bangladesh women are placed fourth in the points table with six points at a NRR of -0.270. India are still topping the table with same number of points at 3.428. Sri Lanka (second) and Pakistan (third) are placed ahead of Bangladesh. Bangladesh women’s next match is against Thailand on Thursday.
