The spinners played a major role in the powerplay as Indian batters struggled. They lost four wickets for 32 in 8.2 overs. Anuja Patil’s obstructing the field put the tournament favourites in trouble.

Nobody got going other than skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. She made sure India finish well. India scored 112/9 in 20 overs, a score which was unlikely when the batting order stumbled. Kaur top-scored with 42-ball 56 runs including 7 boundaries.

Bangladeshi spinners were clinical. Rumana Ahmed and Khadija Tul Kubra picked two wickets each.

In reply, Bangladesh openers Ayasha Rahman and Shamima Sultana gave a good start but none reached 20s as both fell to Poonam Yadav in the seventh over. The pressure mounted as Poonam bagged two wickets.

Nigar Sultana eased the pressure in her 24-ball 27 runs with 4 fours. Rumana Ahmed was good with the bat as well in her 23 off 22 balls.

Bangladesh required nine runs to win in the last over off Harmanpreet. Sanjida Islam took a single off the first ball. The second ball went for boundary as Rumana played an inside-out shot. Needing 4 off 4, Rumana took a single. Sanjida got herself caught in the deep by playing a big shot. Rumana was run out at the non-striker’s end after taking a single on thehe fifth delivery.

Needing 2 off 1, Jahanara Alam pulled to deep mid-wicket and ran two with captain Salma Khatun at the other end. A poor through let Bangladesh take two runs to pull of an amazing three-wicket victory in the final.
