Mr. Fifty of Bangladesh cricket, Habibul Bashar Sumon played last international cricket match back in the year 2008. As a national selector, he visits Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium almost everyday. But since 2008 then, he never got to play a competitive match on the turf of Mirpur’s Home of Cricket.
But finally, Bashar is all set to make return to Mirpur as an active willower, as his team Jemcon Group Khulna Masters have been through to the final of Masters Cricket Carnival, and they will lock horns with Lanka-Bangla All-Stars in the summit clash due to take place in Mirpur.
Bashar played a big role by making important 32 in the semifinal match on Saturday to lift his team to the final, and the first thing he expressed following the match was the excitement to be able to make return to Mirpur as a player.
“I am very excited. We will be playing in Mirpur after a long time. In last few years, we played a few exhibition matches, but this is going to be a competitive match in many years. Hopefully everyone, including those current players from Khulna zone, will come to watch the match in Mirpur,” said Bashar.
The former Bangladesh skipper also hoped for a better performance in the final as this time they will be really serious to win the title. “As we are now in the final, we will try to play more seriously. In last few days, we enjoyed a lot both in and outside the field. This has been a platform for all of us for a perfect reunion where we shared lots of emotions with each other.”
