South Africa batsman Temba Bavuma has been withdrawn for the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against Australia.

This move comes as a precaution while the player continues his conditioning and rehabilitation following a right hamstring strain.

Rassie van der Dussen has been brought into the squad as cover. Van der Dussen was initially rested for the series but has already joined the squad in Bloemfontein on Wednesday (March 4) morning.

Despite being withdrawn for the remainder of the series, the 29-year-old Bavuma will continue to stay with the squad while team medical staff assist in getting him ready for the upcoming tour to India when South Africa depart on 8 March, following the conclusion of the third ODI in Potchefstroom on March 7.

Bavuma featured for South Africa in the opening ODI against Australia on Saturday (February 29) and made a 30-ball 26 in his side’s comfortably 74-run victory.

Bavuma has so far averaged 43.50 in ODI cricket at a strike rate of 90.15 and 41.00 in T20 cricket at 153.75 this year, and he is set for ODI opening berth in India.
