BCB in talks with Sanjay Bangar for batting consultant role
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in search of a batting consultant for Bangladesh’s Test team as former South Africa batsman Neil McKenzie is currently doubling up as Bangladesh’s red-ball consultant despite being contracted for white-ball cricket only.
BCB have revealed that they are in talks with Sanjay Bangar and he is one of the candidates for the role. However, till then, McKenzie will continue his job as the batting consultant in both the formats, BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed.
“We have spoken with Bangar (for Test batting consultant) but nothing is finalised yet. We are also negotiating with few others as well (for the Test batting consultant post). McKenzie is looking after the red-ball cricket despite being a white ball consultant and till we get a batting consultant for Test cricket we are expecting him to do the job (in red ball,” he said.
Bangar worked as the batting coach of India from 2014 to 2019 and he contributed a lot as a member of the coaching staff. However, he was the only one of the Ravi Shastri-led coaching staff whose contract wasn’t renewed in 2019 after India’s successful tour of the Caribbean. Vikram Rathoure replaced him as the new batting coach of India.
On the other hand, Bangar is now open for a job and he is currently working only as a commentator.
