BCB plans to buy corona vaccines separately

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will not have to wait to receive corona vaccines through government channels, as they have decided to buy the vaccines themselves instead, immediately after they arrive in the country.

Local pharmaceutical supplier Beximco will be responsible for importing the corona vaccines named Covishield in Bangladesh on behalf of the government from the Serum Institute of India (SII).

The vaccines are expected to arrive in Bangladesh at the end of January. As per Bangladesh government’s current plan, sports federations and organizations are expected to receive the vaccines for their respective national-level athletes free of cost from the second or the third month after the arrival of Covishield.

But considering Bangladesh national side’s busy international calendar ahead, BCB does not want to wait for that long. Hence they have decided to source the vaccine from Beximco, reports Cricbuzz.

It should be noted tha BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon is also the managing director of Beximco. The pharma company will sponsor the Bangladesh side in their impending series against West Indies as well, which will include three ODIs and two Tests.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “We have decided that whenever the vaccines are sold privately in the country we will buy it without any delay.”

“National cricketers are in the government priority list but apart from them there are others involved in running the game and they are not expected to get from the government. So, we’ve decided to buy it,” he also added.

Apart from the national cricketers, which is most obvious, BCB might buy the vaccines for groundsmen, match referees, scorers, umpires, coaches and other board officials. First-class cricketers, women’s teams and Dhaka Premier League players will also receive vaccines from the board.
