BCB sells broadcasting rights at stellar price

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sold its broadcasting rights to Ban Tech ahead of the West Indies series.

Ban Tech secured the rights at BDT 179700000 (USD 2120000 approx.), eclipsing Gazi Television and T Sports.

T Sports alongside Nagorik Television will however buy rights from Ban Tech to televise the series.

T Sports telecasted all Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 matches in November-December, introducing itself as the first sports-concentrated television channel in Bangladesh. The channel also telecasted inaugural Lankan Premier League T20. English Premier League, one of top football leagues, has been televised on this channel since December.

BCB’s contract with Gazi Television that ended last year, could not be renewed as pandemic situation did not help. Although Rabbithole Sports did telecast BCB President’s Cup live on YouTube.

BCB will not be signing any long-time broadcast deal at the moment although Bangladesh are expected to host a number of series later this year.

The series against West Indies kicks off from January 20 with the first ODI at Mirpur.
