However, the answer to this question is not available right now. But it is certain that the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe is going to be, Mashrafe’s last series as captain. That’s what Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon said on Wednesday.

Regarding Mashrafe, BCB president said:

“Mashrafe must play against Zimbabwe and he is the captain. If he doesn’t fit, that’s a different thing. We don’t want to rush for that. We have to think about the next World Cup. Because, suddenly, with no captaincy, I will not be able to play the World Cup. So we have to make a decision soon. We don’t have too much time on our hands. We are looking forward to this series. “

However, would Mashrafe’s international career end in this series? BCB president did not clear the matter. He said, “It depends on the player. We saw good players say, ‘This is my last series.’ We have a wish, and if he makes such a decision, we will turn around and bid him farewell.

“And he can play if he wants to. We’re just thinking about captaincy. If he can get into the squad with his performance, he will. It’s not a barrier for anyone. We will decide on the matter of captaincy within a few days.”

Mashrafe was selected as captain for the second time in 2014. With his captaincy, the performance of the Bangladesh team changed a lot. Success came one after another. However, Mashrafe could not match himself at the World Cup last year.

The team did worse. From then on, the discussion continued with him. It was doubtful whether he would find a place in the Zimbabwe series. However, BCB had been finally giving him a chance.

Zimbabwe are now in Dhaka to play a full-series against Bangladesh. The only Test match of the series will begin on February 22 in Mirpur. The three-match ODI series will be held in Sylhet. Then the two-match T20I series will be held in Dhaka.
