The process of finalizing the team for the next three seasons of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is going on very quietly. 10 organizations have applied according to the rules of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to get the team.
After the verification, 7 organizations will be given franchise rights. After a three-season break, the Bashundhara Group has once again applied to own a team in the BPL. After much drama, BPL's regular team Cumilla also applied. Besides, there are four new organizations interested in getting teams in the BPL. Monarch Holding has also shown interest in acquiring the team. Shakib Al Hasan is associated with the company.
Speaking to the media in Mirpur on Sunday (September 8), BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury spoke about the progress of the BPL teams. He said that BCB is working on team selection, sponsorship, and other ancillary issues.
He said, "The works of BPL are progressing. We have some internal processes. Of those who applied according to ICC guidelines, 2/1 are new. Some of their issues are subject to scrutiny. We are doing them. There are other tasks related to a tournament... especially sponsorships we are working on. When we get something definitive, we will let you know.”
It should be noted that the next season of BPL will be held from January 5, 2023, according to the BCB schedule.
