BCB to set up mobile courts at venues to prevent betting

Betting in cricket is something that is not new. During the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), 72 people were arrested by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) but due to not having any law, it wasn’t possible to punish them.

But the board is now set to take an action against betting. With the help of law enforcing agencies, they will introduce mobile court to prevent gambling and betting in the gallery during the upcoming international matches at home.

The decision has been taken ahead of the upcoming tri-nation series between Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Not only in Mirpur, the mobile court will be place in Chittagong and Sylhet too where Bangladesh will play Test and T20I series against Sri Lanka.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said in the press conference: “We are taking some extra precaution [against preventing gambling and betting at venue] and had completed the required formalities regarding implementing it with concerned authorities.”

He added: “There is a plan of setting up mobile court in the venue by the government as it was decided that provision of implementing ‘magistracy power’ will be introduced during the series.”

The tri-nation series will begin on 15th January with hosts Bangladesh taking on Zimbabwe at the Mirpur Shere-e-Bangla National stadium.
