After India's collapse in the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already sacked the entire selection panel. Now the team psychologist is losing his job. The famous Paddy Upton was hired as a psychologist before the World Cup but it seems that it doesn’t last long.
Due to tight cricket and bio-bubble, the sport became difficult for many cricketers. BCCI gave the most importance to mental health in such a situation. In that sequence, Sourav Ganguly's board appointed a renowned psychologist to the team.
But Paddy Upton, a psychologist, is losing his job under Roger Binny. India won the ODI World Cup in 2011. Upton was with that team. Many people even saw his great contribution to winning the World Cup.
So BCCI again opted for him. Upton was appointed last July on the advice of head coach Rahul Dravid. But the BCCI has decided, Upton's contract will not be extended. At one time it was conceivable that Upton would stay with India until at least the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Upton has a close relationship with India's current coach Rahul Dravid. He helped India's World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten in 2019. Dravid was then a member of the Indian team. Besides, Dravid and Upton worked as coaches in Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils in IPL.
