BCCI shortlists venues for T20 World Cup 2021

ECB recommends suspension of all recreational cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to host the upcoming T20 World Cup tournament in India next year. The ICC has planned to conduct the two T20 tournaments in 2020 and 2021.

The WC was supposed to play in Australia but it was postponed to 2020 due to coronavirus outbreak. However, the next World Cup will be played in India as per the schedule.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has shortlisted the venues for the upcoming World Cup. The Indian team has already hosted the T20 World Cup in 2016 when the Caribbeans lifted the trophy. The hosts reached the semi-final of the tournament before were knocked out by the West Indies.

According to the reports, the BCCI has picked Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mohali, Dharamshala, Kolkata and Mumbai as the shortlisted venues to host the upcoming World Cup.

“It’s a matter of pride for every centre to host World Cup matches. We have high-class stadiums and top facilities and we want the BCCI to consider our case as well. We are OK with the bigger centres hosting India matches. But at least give us some games. We will raise the issue at the AGM,” President of West Zone State Association said.

The BCCI members will also talk about the inclusion of a new IPL team during the Annual General Meeting (AGM). “We will make a decision after the matter is placed before the members; one new team or two, from 2021 or 2022; we want to go ahead based on consensus,” the BCCI official said.
