‘Bevan was the toughest bowler!’
One of the finest wicket keepers cricket has ever produced, Adam Gilchrist of Australia kept the wicket for a generation of genius performing bowlers the likes of Shane Warne, Stuart McGill and Glenn McGrath.
But to much surprise, when Gilchrist was asked who is the toughest bowler he kept to, the Aussie great named a name whom nobody could recognize as a bowler.
And he is Michael Bevan. Explaining his terms, Adam Gilchrist said, “Bevo’s not renowned for his bowling. Obviously his batting, he was so masterful in that, but he did contribute with some handy wickets at times. The left-arm leggie, fast action, is very difficult to pick out of the hand. That’s why it was so challenging,”
The 45 year old former wicket keeper batsman said Bevan was not only a masterful batsman but also contributed for the team through picking wickets.
He further said, “And Bevo will concede himself he didn’t have the greatest control so whilst he could land it right on a sixpence he could also throw them far and wide too, so it was always a challenge.”
Adam Gilchrist kept wickets in 45 matches where Michael Bevan bowled for the team. Bevan bagged 36 wickets in the limited version of the game.
