Beximco to sponsor Bangladesh in West Indies series
Bangladesh cricket team is without any official sponsor since January last year. And it seems like the situation is not going to change anytime soon.
Next Bangladesh are set to face West Indies. But even ahead of the series, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) couldn’t find a permanent sponsor, and hence the series will once again see a temporary team sponsor for the home side.
Bangladesh had played in the Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan without any sponsor. After that, Beximco came forward as the temporary sponsor for the Zimbabwe series.
Beximco will sponsor the Tigers in the three ODIs and two Tests against West Indies as well. BDCricTime has learnt this from BCB sources on Wednesday (January 13).
BCB’s sponsorship deal with Anglo-Dutch consumer giant Uniliver expired in January 2020, and the global coronavirus pandemic began while BCB was in the process of naming a new sponsor.
On January 21, 2020, BCB had sought an Expression of Interest for a two-year long team sponsorship bid with a floor price of USD 6.5 Million. They however could not attract any sponsor before the home series against Zimbabwe, which forced the cricket body to take an interim sponsor in Akash, a DTH company owned by Beximco.
It is understood that the board will go for a long-term deal once the coronavirus pandemic as well as the overall market situation become normal. As long as things are not normal, they will keep bringing in sponsors on a temporary basis.
