Bhuvneshwar Kumar to skip SA T20I series
India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the only two Indian bowlers to have bagged a five-wicket haul in all the three formats of the game. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from getting more chances in the national team.
After playing 3 T20Is and ODIs against the Windies previously this month, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar found himself under the weather once again.
The 29-year-old seamer was not picked in the Indian squad picked for the three-match T20I series against South Africa next month.
Bhuvneshwar, who bagged seven wickets in the six matches that he played in the Caribbean islands, including a four-for in the second ODI at Port of Spain, was replaced by all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the South Africa series. While it did seem that the man has been rested, a report added that Bhuvneshwar was not available for the team selection since he is unwell.
“Bhuvneshwar has not been given rest. It is claimed that he is unavailable because he is unwell,” Times of India quoted a source as saying.
It should also be noted that Bhuvneshwar missed a few games in the World Cup because of injury
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was part of the Indian team squad that played in the summer showpiece event and was then ruled out of some games with a groin injury that he had sustained during the Pakistan encounter at Old Trafford on June 16.
He then returned in the later stage of the tournament where he was also picked for the limited-over games in the West Indies but not in the opening Test match.
He had picked up an injury ahead of the Test series in England last year and has not played in Test cricket since January 2018. Now with Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami weaving the magic by produced consistent performances in the red-ball format, it made even more difficult for Bhuvneshwar to make a rebound.
Bhuvneshwar, who made his international debut in the year 2012, has played only 21 Tests, 114 ODIs and 40 T20Is taking a total of 234 wickets in his international career.
