Boucher reveals why AB de Villiers won’t captain in the MSL
The second edition of the MSL (Mzansi Super League), which starts on November 8, will see AB de Villiers vacate his position as the captain of the Tshwane Spartans.
The club coach Mark Boucher added that he is searching for a new captain in a squad.
“AB won’t be captain, we’ve discussed that,” said Boucher. “He’s a fantastic player but he must go out there and play and perform like he’s been performing in the last while.”
The former Proteas wicketkeeper Bouncer is keen to relieve a bit of pressure in AB de Villiers for the new campaign.
“We have a few leadership options, we’ll talk to them and see how they feel,” he said.
Mark Boucher knows what situation AB de Villiers is in and said that the latter must enjoy playing a fearless brand of cricket with less pressure on his shoulders. “I don’t think AB needs that burden, he’s in that stage of his life where he must enjoy his cricket and that’s probably when he plays his best,” Boucher said.
As with all the squads, the Spartans can opt for a ‘wild card’ pick following the domestic Provincial T20 Knockout Challenge that will be staged between September 13 and 23.
