BPL: Shane Watson signs for Khulna Titans
Khulna Titans have recruited the services of Australian all-rounder Shane Watson for the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League. Khulna Titans had to bring in an experienced campaigner in their team to produce good results for the upcoming season. The franchise had a terrible ending in the last season as they finished at the bottom of the points table.
Watson, who missed the 2017 BPL owing to injury, after joining Dhaka Dynamites that year, made his point very clear and that would be to win a maiden title for Khulna Titans. It would be quite interesting to see how Shane Watson takes up a challenge and goes about his business. He can add a perfect dimension to both batting and bowling attack.
“I am super excited to join the Khulna Titans for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League season. The BPL is a tournament that I have always wanted to play in and now I finally get my chance. There are so many great cricketers playing in the BPL from the local Bangladesh stars to the overseas superstars, so it is going to be very special to finally be a part of it,” Watson said.
“The other very special thing for me is to have the chance to play in front of the incredible Bangladesh cricket loving fans again. The coaching and management team at the Khulna Titans are putting together an amazing squad so hopefully we can bring home that title that we have always been looking for,” the Australia cricketer said.
Watson had announced his BBL retirement in April, but he is actively plying his trade in other T20 leagues. In May, he almost steered Chennai Super Kings to the IPL glory and he is now geared up to turn up in the inaugural Euro T20 Slam tourney.
The seventh edition of BPL is expected to commence in the first week of December later this year.
“Khulna Titans is excited to have Shane Watson join the franchise. He is a true champion, having won many titles for his country and the franchise teams he has represented around the world. His experience and his winning mentality will contribute significantly to the team. Hopefully, Shane will propel us to the title that we have been working so hard for,” Khulna Titans Managing Director Kazi Inam Ahmed added.
